Documentaries have a point of view too
Choosing questions, images and duration is part of building a story about the real world.
A record is not complete transparency
A camera records only one position and interval. A documentary may observe events, organise interviews or work with archives, but it always selects what to present. Recognising these choices does not make the film false: it helps us discuss the reach of its evidence.
Separate the image from the claim
A photograph may show a situation without proving every conclusion in the narration. Ask when the record was made, who created it and how it relates to the spoken account. Identifying a reconstruction helps distinguish a later representation from an image of the actual event.
Watch with curiosity and judgement
Choose a central claim and notice how it is supported: testimony, documents, comparison or interpretation. Consider who has not been heard too. The aim is not to demand impossible neutrality, but to understand the proposed perspective and recognise where the film informs, argues or leaves questions open.
